My name is Sam and I work full-time outside of horses at a small software company in downtown Seattle (www.cozi.com). I'm a wife, a daughter, a sister, a marketer and a mom to several four-legged kids.

I fell in love with horses before I could walk. I developed my early horsemanship skills through the US Pony Clubs in the VA region and I’m a graduate B. My parents supported all my equestrian endeavors in every way they could. My first true teacher was SuSu (Suzanne) Shoemaker-Dale. I was very lucky to ride and learn from many of her horses. I am thankful for the riding skills she instilled in me and the confidence she gave me to be able to accomplish anything I worked hard for. 

Eventing has been my passion for nearly 30 years. (I also enjoyed a stint in Equitation as a member of the Mary Washington College IHSA riding team.) After graduate school, I moved from VA to WA for my professional career and have lived here since 1998. In 2006, my childhood dream of having horses at home came true. My husband and I purchased a small farm 40 miles SE of Seattle that we now call home.

I have two ultimate goals in regards to my riding: the first is to be the best educated rider I can be. The second is to competently compete at the highest level of the sport—advanced. I have been training with Amy Tryon (two-time Olympian, WEG multi-medalist) since 2001 and I feel extremely lucky to be able to train with and be inspired by one of the best in the world.
