Horses of Irongate Way
Patra Mara ("Georgia")
1999 American TB Mare, Dark Bay, 16.1+ hands
by Demonsbegone (Elocutionist) X Raise a Mission (Raise a Bid)
- Demonsbegone was a heavy favorite in the 1987 Kentucky Derby and he stood at Claiborne Farm from 1989 to 1996.
- Georgia is the princess of the farm and gets free roam of all 6 acres sometimes. She can be turned out outside of her paddock and walks around eating from wherever she pleases. She comes to me when I call her for dinner time.
- Her favorite treats are Willie Muffins (graham cracker and peanut butter & jelly flavors).
- She loves Apple and Molasses flavored Uncle Jimmy Hangin' balls. And she also loves red vines.
- She doesn't like to be brushed but (sometimes) enjoys a soft rub above her eyes.
- I've owned Georgia since she was 3 years old and she is currently competing at the Intermediate level. Competitive highlights.Skippers Approval ("Gilligan")
2005 Canadian TB Gelding, Gray, 16.3 hands
by With Approval (Caro) X Ten Guineas (Strategic Command)
- With Approval is the 1989 Canadian Triple Crown winner. He stands at stud in the UK.
- Gilligan loves people and will follow you around the paddock, stall, field, everywhere.
- He likes to nip at your clothes, your fingers, your hair, anything he can get his lips on.
- He likes to play with people as if they were horses, especially when you are leading him to turn out. I'm working on making him his own man - he's too big for spontaneous playtime.
- He loves to be scratched on the bottomside of his neck - he'll raise his head very far up in the air while you do it. It makes him look like a giraffe.
- His favorite treats are carrots and Mrs. Pastures cookies.
- I've owned Gil since he was 3 years old and have taken my time with him. He's been a little slow to mature physically and mentally. I've taken him for lessons with Amy and he's been out cross-country schooling several times. He'll start showing in 2010 and we hope to have a nice, confidence building year.
Legions Pride ("Buzz")
2003 IDSH Gelding, Bay, 16 hands
by The Pride of Gloster (Clover Hill) X Last Legion (American Legion)
- Buzz loves to nap. I've never seen a horse lay down, flat out, as much as he does. He likes to nap in the sun, under trees, anywhere and everywhere.
- He often shares his grain with Holt (jack russell).
- Everything is Buzz' favorite treat - apples, carrots, sour patch kids, Mrs. Pastures cookies, berry good treats...anything and everything.
- Buzz was the easiest, most athletic, and fun youngster to bring along of any horse I've ever sat on. He has an incredible mind and is so trainable. He seemed to have all the right instincts and I had high hopes for him. Especially having had him since he was 6 months old. I bought him from Southern Breeze Sporthorses (TX) and he happily spent his first several years in WA growing up at Maggi Clark's farm in Arlington.
- In 2008 he had a fluke accident in the pasture and tore all the cartilage in his stifle. After several weeks at WSU and expert opinion from Dr. Schneider, he is a very fancy pasture ornament that may be able to return to light work and trail riding in the future. He is lovely to have around either way because he is just the sweetest guy you'll ever meet. Everyone that comes to the farm says, "Buzz is my favorite."
